I believe in two kinds of PC software: portable - so I just drop .exe in my tools folder and use it and software that automatically updates – Google Chrome is champion here. Unfortunately TortoiseSVN is neither. It will tell me that is out of date, but then I have to jump through several loops (going...

If you go to gdgt you can download compiled version of Chrome OS pre-release in shape of virtual machine. Don’t expect too much, since it’s quite unstable, slow and it freezes a lot. If I didn’t miss anything it’s just Chrome browser that boots on it’s own. So, it’s far from XP/Vista/7 killer for now...

I was pleasantly surprised today, when I found out I’m eligible for free copy of Windows 7 Ultimate as a beta tester. Although I didn’t report any bugs, I was granted a retail license key and a download of x68 and x64 version of Windows 7. That’s just great! Thank you, Microsoft! After installing Windows...

Gentlemen, start you downloads! Windows 7 RTM is available for download on MSDN and TechNet. I haven’t seen Windows Server 2008 R2 yet.

I just installed Windows 7 RC in Virtual PC and found that Windows 7 has a keyboard shortcut for creating new folder. Just press CTRL + SHIFT + N and you got it! Finally! This alone will be the reason I’ll install Windows 7 as soon as it RTM’s!

My good old home server died. This 7 years old machine that I stacked with hard drives was happily running Windows Home Server and few more things on the top for little more than a year . But just last week some capacitors on main board blew and it was time to find a substitute. I quickly decided I need...

If you get this error when trying to connect to your Home Server using Windows Home Server Console, welcome to the club. When Googling you’ll find all kinds of advices to reinstall Connector software or even whole server. Luckily, all of those are wrong. It turns out that all other components, like shared...

Lately my Dell Latitude D820 has been running very hot and loud. I tried to help it cool with various desk and lap positions, but things went from bad to worse. Google search confirmed my suspicion that dust has killed it’s cooling capabilities. I could take it to repairs, but that’s no fun. And since...

I'm a big fan of Windows Home Server I have run it since beta. I finally finished building and tweaking my configuration and it's time to blog it. Why? Why would I need WHS? I already had Windows Server 2003 machine in the basement that served as a "always-on" download machine and storage...
