I bought a laptop recently. It's a HP nx7400. It's great it really is, the only problem I have with it is a dead pixel (but is really unnoticeable unless you look for it).
The other problem I had was a high pitching or buzzing (annoying) sound that the laptop made while running of batteries with a USB device attached (didn't matter what device). In that scenario an annoying sound was coming out of the battery area right next to the external monitor port. I was googling for quite some time without success. And then I gave up, and the thing didn't even bother me that much because the laptop was rarely running of the batteries while I was in a quite place where the sound could be heard.
Anyways, today I started hearing the sound again and it drove me completely mad. So I went to the HP support forums and finally found a solution.
The problem was in the so called "USB hubs". Someone on that forum said to disable power management on all the USB hubs (go to Device manager, select a USB hub, right click, select properties, select Power management tab).
So I did, and luckily I found out that I don't have to disable all of them because once I disabled the second one the sound stopped. Then I re enabled the fist one and the sound didn't reappear. So all you have to do is find the right one and disable that one.
Hope this helps somebody.
